My idea for the Magellan was sort of a mix between Agent P’s World Showcase game and Clue. I wanted to create something that had an air of mystery and also allowed guests to run around and explore the starship at the same time. I wanted the game to be something all members of the family would appreciate and feel like they enjoyed the experience over all by the end of it. So when I began designing the game I jotted down many of the ideas and each one held the same theme of robots and something going wrong. So, I thought of a character that would have control over them (and pulled inspiration from my character I created in class Jesse Love) who wanted to be the best and receive all the notoriety from everyone aboard. Then it came down to figuring out how to properly integrate the guest into the game and make it all make sense. I figured Dimitri would have a problem with someone who could be perceived as better than him and then after I figured that part out the ideas became clearer with time.

As far as the object goes, I ended up explaining two that are used. The ID badge is described merely as an object to help guest around the hotel and can also be used during the mission. It’s not the main one, but since I got into the habit of explaining and exploring the design of the Starship I thought it was important to explain what it did and show its usefulness. The main star of the show is the phone/scanner. It has a few functions that aid in the game, it is a guided experience that has pop ups and guides to help the player properly navigate it. It also acts as a way to make money for the park, seeing as the rental or purchase of it could be beneficial. The phones main abilities is scanning the humanoids (when it is aimed at the correct ones it will blink red to indicate trouble or a problem), it has an inventory to help them interact and properly communicate with the Star Crew (employees) who weren’t exactly human. The phone also had the ability to pop up text messages from previous crew members they encountered along the way. I believe this would be a good main interface because it gives the guest a hands on experience and it allows for multiple purposes which is way more convenient in my opinion.

One of my favorite parts of this whole project was getting to think up every little detail that wasn’t already decided about the Magellan. It stretched my creative muscle and leads me to think about how I would design such a thing which is something I had never done before. I wanted it to be as detailed as possible so that if I were to explain this to someone else I could give them the whole experience.

Overall I really enjoyed this project and making a new game using a new skill I gained solely because of this class.
